About Kapitan Restaurant
Kapitan is a halal Indian Muslim restaurant on Lebuh Chulia, a short walk from the Kapitan Keling Mosque. It has run for more than four decades and is known for claypot biryani, which arrives sealed and steaming, along with tandoori chicken, cheese naan and a sweet almond milk (badam) drink.
The restaurant opens daily from 8 am until midnight (it is not a 24-hour shop), which makes it one of the easiest late dinners in the heritage zone after a night out on Chulia Street. A claypot biryani with chicken and a drink costs roughly RM15 to RM25. It is busy at weekends, but tables turn over quickly.
