Best Restaurants in Melaka: 14 Picks for 2026

Melaka restaurants: a plate of chicken rice balls with poached chicken and bean sprouts on a marble table in Melaka

The best restaurants in Melaka (Malacca) serve the food of the communities that have lived in the old port for centuries: Nyonya cooking of the Peranakan Chinese, the Kristang seafood of the Portuguese-Eurasian settlement, Malay asam pedas, Indian banana leaf rice and Melaka's own chicken rice balls. This guide covers 14 sit-down restaurants in and around Melaka City, checked for October 2026.

Each entry gives the address, a halal flag and the hours where we could confirm them from the restaurant itself. Most Melaka restaurants do not publish their hours, so many entries say "check before visiting", and we did not find reliable menu prices for most, so we say "check menu" rather than guess. Prices are in Malaysian Ringgit (RM). Hawker stalls, satay celup and food courts are in the Melaka hawker food guide.

Melaka has no MICHELIN Guide restaurants: in October 2026 the Malaysia selection covers only Kuala Lumpur and Penang. Halal status varies a lot here, so the flags below matter: most Nyonya and Portuguese Settlement kitchens are not halal certified.

Nancy's Kitchen is a family-style Nyonya restaurant in Taman Kota Laksamana, the shophouse district just west of the Jonker Street area. It cooks Peranakan home dishes, the Chinese-Malay cooking of the Straits Chinese, with rempah spice pastes, tamarind, belacan and candlenut.

It is listed as non-halal on its GrabFood page. We could not confirm current opening days from a source we trust, so check before you go; it is a short taxi or 15-minute walk from Jonker Walk.

Kocik Heritage Nyonya Restaurant

100 Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock (Heeren Street), 75200 Melaka · Hours: check before visiting · Nyonya rice plates about RM12–RM23 on GrabFoodHalal status not confirmed · Google Maps · Verified Oct 2026

Kocik serves traditional Nyonya food in a shophouse on Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, the old Heeren Street lined with Peranakan townhouses, one street from Jonker Walk. Its Chinese name is 小姑传统娘惹餐厅. The shop at No. 100 was known as Kocik Kitchen, and some map listings under that old name show it as closed, but the restaurant trades as Kocik Heritage Nyonya Restaurant: its GrabFood menu, with dishes such as ayam pongteh and lemak nenas udang, was updated in May 2026.

GrabFood lists it from noon to 7 pm on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, which are delivery hours, so check dine-in hours before you go. It is convenient for lunch between the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum and the Jonker Street shops. Its GrabFood listing does not say whether it is halal, so ask if that matters.

Restoran Ole Sayang

The green shophouse front of Restoran Ole Sayang Nyonya Food in Melaka, with its round sign reading since 1983 and red lanterns over the door

Its phone number is +606 283 1966. It is listed on GrabFood without a halal tag, so ask about halal status. Taman Melaka Raya is about 10 minutes on foot from Dutch Square.

We confirmed it only through its GrabFood listing, whose menu was updated in April 2026. It lists evening hours from Tuesday to Sunday (5 pm to midnight) and no halal information, so check before making a special trip. It pairs well with an evening walk around the settlement.

The restaurant's own Facebook page and its OpenStreetMap listing describe it as halal, which makes it one of the few chicken rice ball places Muslim visitors can use. Look for the halal certificate at the counter, as status can change.

How to Choose a Restaurant in Melaka

The heritage core around Jonker Walk and Heeren Street is easy to explore on foot, and Taman Melaka Raya and Taman Kota Laksamana, where many local favourites are, are 10 to 15 minutes' walk away. The Portuguese Settlement is about 3 km out, so take an e-hailing car, especially at night.

Weekends and school holidays bring large crowds from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, and queues at well-known Nyonya restaurants and chicken rice ball shops can be long at lunch. Eat early, before 12 pm, or visit on a weekday. Many family-run restaurants close one day a week, so check before you travel across town.

For halal food, look for the JAKIM halal certificate on display. Nyonya cooking traditionally uses pork and lard, and most Portuguese Settlement kitchens are not certified. Ee Ji Ban and Mochee are the halal options in this guide, and Malay restaurants such as Asam Pedas Selera Kampung are Muslim-run.
