About Han Jiang Teochew Ancestral Temple

Han Jiang is the community temple of the Penang Teochew Association, completed in 1870 on Chulia Street. It follows the Teochew style of southern China, with three halls set around open courtyards and fine wood and stone carving.

A careful restoration, finished in 2005, was recognised with a UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation. The temple is free to visit when the gates are open. It sits in the busy backpacker stretch of Chulia Street, close to the Kapitan Keling Mosque.
