About Guan Di Temple

Built in 1888 by the Kwong Siew Association, this Cantonese temple is dedicated to Guan Di (Guan Yu), the general revered as a god of war, loyalty and literature. The red-and-gold hall faces Sri Mahamariamman Temple across the road, a pairing that sums up the mix of faiths in old Chinatown.

The temple's best-known feature is a heavy bronze guandao (halberd) beside the altar; visitors lift or touch it for luck. Expect smoke from large incense coils and a steady flow of worshippers. Entry is free. Pasar Seni station is five minutes away on foot.
