About Penrose
Penrose opened in August 2022 and climbed quickly: No. 50 on Asia's 50 Best Bars in 2023, No. 8 in 2024 and No. 10 in 2025, when it was named The Best Bar in Malaysia for the second year running. In the 2026 list it sits at No. 64 in the extended 51–100 ranking. Founder Jon Lee, formerly of Wildflowers and Singapore's Tippling Club, builds each drink around five pillars: alcohol, flavour, taste, body and dilution. The menu is split into highballs, sours, spirit-forward drinks and temperance (low or no alcohol) serves, with house takes on classics such as a banana-led Rum Musa and a makopa martini with plum and lava salt.
Seating is mainly at the bar counter, which keeps the room small and the service personal, so booking ahead is sensible on Friday and Saturday. Budget roughly RM90 to RM130 per person for a couple of drinks. Some listings show a 1 am close rather than midnight, so confirm before a late visit. Penrose is directly across Jalan Petaling from PS150, which makes the two an easy Chinatown pairing.
