History of TRX City Park

The park is part of Tun Razak Exchange, a 70-acre financial district named after Malaysia's second prime minister, Tun Abdul Razak. The project began in the early 2010s under the name Kuala Lumpur International Financial District (KLIFD) as part of the government's Economic Transformation Programme, during the premiership of Najib Razak. The master developer, TRX City Sdn Bhd, is owned by the Ministry of Finance. The district plan covers 26 buildings and over 21 million square feet of floor space, built in phases over about 15 years.

The lifestyle quarter at its centre, The Exchange TRX, was developed as a joint venture between TRX City and the Australian group Lendlease, which holds a 60% stake. The design put a large public park on the mall's roof rather than at ground level. The overall concept came from the landscape practice Oculus (Melbourne and Sydney studios), with landscape design by Pentago and architectural elements by GDP. Their theme was the Malaysian landscape: as you walk through the park, it shifts between forest edges, limestone outcrops, an urban village, hillside ravines and streams running down to coastal lowlands, with areas of ethnobotanical planting (plants used for food and medicine).

The Exchange TRX mall, with more than 400 stores over four levels, and the park both opened to the public on 29 November 2023. Exchange 106, the 106-storey office tower next door, rises to 453.6 metres and is the third-tallest building in Malaysia.
