Selangor Local Products: 6 Things Selangor Is Known For and Where to Buy Them
Selangor local products come from very different corners of the state: herbal bak kut teh from Klang, rice from the paddy fields of Sekinchan, biscuits from small bakeries on the north coast, dried seafood from Pulau Ketam, fruit farms near Sepang and the pewter that carries the state's name.
This guide covers 6 Selangor local products checked in October 2026, with a named place to buy each, the town it is in and prices where we could confirm them. Sekinchan and Pulau Ketam are day trips from Kuala Lumpur, so we also say which products you can find closer to the city. For crafts and gift shops, see the Selangor souvenirs guide.

Klang Bak Kut Teh Herb Packs
Bak kut teh is a herbal pork rib soup, and in Malaysia it is most closely linked with Klang, where locals believe the dish began. The broth is simmered with herbs and spices such as star anise, cinnamon, cloves, dang gui (angelica root), fennel seeds and garlic, and you can buy the dry herb mix in packs to cook it at home.
In October 2026 the Jaya Grocer store at The Starling Mall listed Claypot Klang Traditional Herbal Broth (34 g) at RM8.99 and Claypot Klang Kau Raw Herbs (75 g) at RM15.99 on its online shop. In Klang, ask at the bak kut teh shops whether they sell their own herb mix. The finished dish is not halal, but the dry herb pack itself contains no meat.
Sekinchan Rice
Sekinchan, in Sabak Bernam district about 100 km north-west of KL, is one of the major rice-producing areas of Malaysia, with flat, well-irrigated paddy fields that yield 10 to 12 tonnes a hectare. Local rice mills sell rice by the bag to visitors.
The Sekinchan Rice Mill Factory and its Paddy Gallery are run by the PLS Group, which grew from a rice transport business into rice wholesale, seedlings and farm services. Tourism Selangor lists it as open Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, and closed on Saturday; it does not take online orders. WhatsApp: +60 16-205 6558.
Kuih Kapit from Ah Ma House
Kuih kapit is a thin, crisp rolled biscuit (sometimes called love letters or egg waffle) made by pressing batter between hot moulds. Ah Ma House in Sekinchan is a bakery that makes kuih kapit on a "make it now, sell it now" basis, along with other traditional Malaysian snacks, biscuits and desserts, according to Tourism Selangor.
The shop is filled with old furniture and household appliances, so many visitors stop for photos as well. "Ah Ma" means grandmother in Hokkien. Kuih kapit is fragile, so carry it in your hand luggage. Phone: +60 14-230 5753.
Royal Selangor 锡器
Pewter is the craft most closely tied to Selangor's tin-mining history. Royal Selangor, founded in 1885 by Yong Koon, makes more than a thousand pewter designs, from tankards and tea sets to photo frames and wine accessories, and sells through department stores worldwide.
In Selangor, its stores are at Sunway Pyramid (Lot G-1.39, daily 10 am to 10 pm, +60 3-7492 7668), 1 Utama (G101, daily 10 am to 10 pm) and airside at KLIA Terminal 1. The company's visitor centre and factory is in Setapak, which is in Kuala Lumpur, not Selangor.
Sepang Dragon Fruit
HL Dragon Fruit Eco Farm near Sepang town grows dragon fruit and lets visitors plant, pollinate and pick their own, with guided farm tours. It also serves dragon fruit fried rice, buns, ice-blended drinks and salads, and sells its fruit and products on site.
Its giant dragon-fruit-shaped structure earned a Malaysia Book of Records entry in 2021. Tourism Selangor lists the farm as open 9 am to 6 pm every day except Wednesday. It is close to KLIA, so it suits a stop on the way to or from the airport.
Pulau Ketam Dried Seafood
Pulau Ketam (Crab Island) is a fishing village built on stilts in the mangroves off Port Klang, reached by ferry from the Port Klang jetty. Wikivoyage notes that the island produces small food items such as dried squid and fish paste. Look for them in the village shops around the jetty; what is on sale varies with the catch.
Buy vacuum-packed items if you are flying, and check the import rules of your home country, as some ban meat and seafood products. Check the last ferry back to Port Klang before you start shopping.
Tips for Buying Selangor Local Products
Buying closer to KL
If you cannot get to Sekinchan or Pulau Ketam, supermarkets in Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya stock bak kut teh herb packs and packaged Malaysian rice, and Royal Selangor pewter is in the big malls. Fresh kuih kapit and farm fruit are worth the trip.
Carrying food home
Dry herb packs, rice and biscuits travel well in checked luggage. Many countries restrict meat, seafood and fresh fruit, so check the rules before buying dried seafood or dragon fruit to take home, and keep everything sealed and labelled.
Halal and non-halal
Bak kut teh is a pork dish and is not halal, although the dry herb packs contain only herbs and spices. Check for a JAKIM halal logo on packaged biscuits and seafood if it matters to you, and ask at small family bakeries.
Planning a north-coast day
Sekinchan is about two hours by car from KL, traffic permitting. Combine the rice mill and Ah Ma House with the paddy fields, Redang beach and seafood, and come back via Kuala Selangor for the fireflies after dark.
