About Sifu
Sifu is a Nyonya restaurant on Jalan Pintal Tali, a short walk from Campbell Street, and it was one of three Penang places to gain a new Bib Gourmand in the MICHELIN Guide 2026. The kitchen is run by a chef in her seventies with decades of experience, and the menu runs to about 40 à la carte dishes of traditional Peranakan food.
Order the assam prawns, glossy with a dark tamarind sauce, and the mang kuang char (stir-fried jicama). Prices are moderate, and dishes are made for sharing. Weekends run straight through from lunch to dinner with no afternoon break. It is closed on Wednesdays. The restaurant takes its own bookings by phone, which is worth doing for dinner.
