Kimberley Street turns into a row of evening hawker stalls once the shophouses close, and the headline act is the Michelin-recognised duck koay chap: flat rice rolls in a dark, star-anise-scented broth with braised duck, intestines, tofu and egg, now about RM12 a bowl. Nearby stalls fry char koay teow, grill chicken wings, sell oyster omelette (oh chien), Hainanese chicken rice, wantan mee and Teochew-style desserts.
Arrive before 8 pm if you want the chicken wings, which often sell out early. Seating is shared folding tables on the five-foot way and in the coffee shops along the street. The street is a 10-minute walk from Komtar and sits on the edge of the heritage zone, so it pairs well with an evening walk through Chinatown.
