About Toh Soon Cafe
Toh Soon Cafe is a traditional Hainanese kopitiam squeezed into a narrow alley off Campbell Street, and it has been serving the same breakfast for more than 70 years. Bread is toasted over charcoal, spread with house-made kaya and served with two half-boiled kampung eggs and a cup of Hainanese white coffee. The most expensive item on the menu costs under RM8.
Seating is in the alley itself, so expect a queue at peak breakfast time, especially on Saturdays. It is not halal-certified. In September 2026 the business announced its first outlet outside Penang, in Subang, Selangor, but the Campbell Street original is the one to visit. Closed on Sundays.
