Geographér Café
Geographér Café is a bar and restaurant in a pre-war corner shophouse where Jonker Street (Jalan Hang Jebat) meets Jalan Hang Lekir, in the middle of Melaka's Chinatown. Its outdoor tables on the corner are one of the few places on Jonker Street where you can sit with a beer and watch the street, and older guides mention live music on some nights.
The café's own website, last updated in August 2025, still lists the same address and phone number (06-281 6813), and its GrabFood listing was taking orders in October 2026 (daily from 11 am, delivery hours only). Neither gives bar hours, and its Instagram has been quiet for years, so phone before you go, especially on a weeknight.
Kaki Minom
Kaki Minom, which means "drinking friends" in Baba Malay, is the rooftop bar of Baba House, a Peranakan guesthouse on Heeren Street, the same road as the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum. It serves drinks and light meals with a view over the shophouse roofs, and the hotel says you can sit with your feet in its shallow rooftop pools while you drink.
The TourismMelaka guide (2026) suggests going at dusk for the light. Hours are not published, so call the hotel on 06-280 6888 to check that the rooftop is open to non-guests that evening.
Bar Sol
Bar Sol is the pool bar beside the rooftop infinity pool of Casa del Rio, a riverside hotel at the southern end of the Melaka River. The hotel describes specialty cocktails and tapas with views over the city and the Straits of Malacca, and the TourismMelaka honeymoon itinerary (2026) picks the rooftop for a drink before dinner.
It closes at 7 pm, so it is a late-afternoon and sundown spot rather than a night out. The hotel calls it "exclusive", so non-guests should phone 06-289 6888 before going up.
Alto Sky Lounge
Alto Sky Lounge is the high-level lounge of Hatten Hotel, near Dataran Pahlawan in Bandar Hilir, with views across the city. The hotel's 2026 promotions list Carlsberg draught at RM15, beer buckets (Carlsberg RM98 or Heineken RM128 for five bottles), pizzas and a Friday and Saturday wine buffet from 7 pm to 10 pm at RM98 per person.
The opening hours above are the ones the hotel gives for its rooftop dining, closed on Sundays and Mondays; they may differ for the lounge, so check before you go. Book on 06-286 9696 or WhatsApp 012-969 7295.
The Bar at The Mansion
The Bar sits just inside the entrance of the restored colonial-era mansion at the front of The Majestic Malacca, on the riverside stretch of Jalan Bunga Raya. The hotel describes it as a classic European-saloon room with wood panelling, serving whiskies, bespoke cocktails and other drinks.
The hotel also promotes a Tanqueray gin made from an 1839 recipe that it says is available only at The Majestic Malacca. Opening hours are not published, so call 06-289 8000 first. It suits a quiet drink before dinner more than a late night.
1939 Lounge
1939 Lounge is the bar and lounge of Courtyard by Marriott Melaka, near Bukit China and a short walk from the Melaka River. Marriott pitches it as a place for a quiet drink and catching up with friends, with casual dress.
It is open daily from 2 pm to 11 pm according to the hotel's website, which makes it one of the more predictable options here. Phone 06-221 2288 for table bookings.
How to Plan a Bar Night in Melaka
Start with a rooftop at sunset: Bar Sol closes at 7 pm, and Kaki Minom and Alto Sky Lounge are best at dusk. Then walk to Jonker Street, where Geographér Café is on the corner of Jalan Hang Lekir. On Friday to Sunday evenings the Jonker Walk night market fills the street until about midnight, so expect crowds.
Most hours here come from the hotels' own websites, and three venues publish no hours at all, so phone ahead. Parts of the heritage core are closed to cars on weekend evenings, so use Grab or walk. None of these bars is halal certified.
