Shopping Malls in Ipoh: 7 Malls and What Each Is Best For

Front of Ipoh Parade with its angled facade and Parkson entrance, one of the main shopping malls in Ipoh

Shopping malls in Ipoh are fewer and more spread out than in a big city. Most are built around a department store, a supermarket and a cinema, and they work well as a rainy-afternoon stop between the Old Town food trail and the cave temples. The most central is Ipoh Parade, just east of the Old Town; the large AEON malls sit in the suburbs and are easiest to reach by car or Grab.

This guide covers 7 shopping malls in Ipoh, checked in October 2026, with opening hours, anchor stores and what each is best for. Ipoh does not have a luxury mall or a dedicated outlet centre. A further large mall, Sunway Ipoh Mall, is under construction and is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2027, so it is not listed here. Store line-ups change often, so check the mall directory before going for one particular shop.

Ipoh Parade opened in 1994 and is described as the first modern mall in Ipoh. It has about 220 retail units over five floors and sits in the Greentown area, a short drive from the Old Town. The anchors are the Parkson department store, a Golden Screen Cinemas multiplex (its GSC BIG screen is billed as the largest cinema in Perak), Guardian, Mr DIY and a Jaya Grocer supermarket in the basement.

Harvey Norman has its only Ipoh branch here. The mall also has a bowling alley, karaoke and laser tag, which makes it a reasonable wet-weather stop for families. Bus route 116 links the mall with the Amanjaya bus terminal.

AEON Mall Kinta City

AEON Mall Kinta City, formerly known as Jusco Kinta City, is in the north-east of Ipoh and has been a local shopping landmark for almost 30 years. The AEON department store anchors it, with a TGV cinema, a bowling alley, a POPULAR bookstore and a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Parking is often full at weekends.

In February 2026 the mall's landlord, KIP REIT, announced a RM160 million expansion that would add about 27 per cent more leasable space, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2027. Expect some building work and changes to the shop line-up over the next year, and check before going for a specific shop.

AEON Mall Ipoh Station 18 is in the southern suburb of Station 18, well away from the centre, so most visitors arrive by car or Grab. It has an AEON department store, a TGV cinema, the KidZoona play centre and restaurants such as Haidilao hot pot and Dragon-i.

The mall was refurbished for its 13th anniversary and reopened on 26 June 2025 with 19 new brands, among them 91 Pickleball, described as the first pickleball facility in a Perak mall, and the iMuscle Fitness gym. An IKEA pop-up that once operated here has closed.

Sentra Mall Ipoh

Sentra Mall Ipoh is the former AEON Mall Klebang, relaunched under new management on the northern side of the city. Parkson is the department-store anchor, and a Cold Storage supermarket opened here on 11 December 2025, marking the chain's return to Perak. Family attractions listed for the mall include the Sentra Splash water theme park, Funtasi Land and Pickle Land.

The tenant mix is still settling after the relaunch: UNIQLO and Sephora branches from the AEON era have closed, and older listings mention a cinema and an ice-skating rink that you should confirm before making a trip for them.

AEON Ipoh Falim Shopping Centre

1 Hala Falim 1, Falim, 30200 Ipoh ยท AEON store daily 10 am โ€“ 10 pm; check individual shops ยท Free entryMid-range Supermarket Family ยท Google Maps ยท Verified Oct 2026

AEON Ipoh Falim Shopping Centre, also listed as AEON Midtown Falim, is a spacious mall south-west of the centre. Its anchor is the AEON Ipoh Falim Store, the hypermarket that used to trade as AEON BiG, plus a GSC cinema, a roller-skating rink, go-karts and a Jalan Jalan Japan store.

Visitors describe it as quiet, with fewer places to eat than the other AEON malls, so it suits a grocery run or a family outing more than a day of browsing. Phone: +60 1-300-80-2366.

Angsana Mall opened in 1996 as Greentown Mall and is an older, plainer mall than the AEON centres. It has many small retail outlets, a fabric store and shops selling second-hand smartphones, with an Econsave supermarket as the anchor on the ground and first floors.

It suits everyday bargains rather than brand shopping, and it is a few minutes from Ipoh Parade. Phone: +60 5-242 2370.

Mydin Mall Meru Raya is built around a Mydin hypermarket, so it is mainly a place to stock up on groceries and household goods in bulk at low prices. There is a children's play zone and ATMs, but few fashion brands.

It is in Bandar Meru Raya, on the northern edge of Ipoh, within walking distance of the Amanjaya bus terminal.

Tips for Visiting Shopping Malls in Ipoh

Opening hours and crowds

Most malls open from 10 am to 10 pm, seven days a week; AEON Station 18 and AEON Kinta City stay open until 10:30 pm on Friday and Saturday, according to AEON's mall pages. Weekday mornings are quietest. Weekends, school holidays and the weeks before Hari Raya and Chinese New Year are busiest, and the car parks at AEON Kinta City fill up.

Tax and tourist discounts

There is no tax refund for tourists in Malaysia: the Tourist Refund Scheme ended with the Goods and Services Tax in 2018, and the Sales and Service Tax included in shop prices is not refundable. None of the Ipoh malls publishes a tourist privilege card that we could confirm.

Getting there and parking

Ipoh Parade is the only mall in this guide that is easy to reach on a city bus from the Old Town side; the others are best reached by Grab or car. Parking is by ticket or Touch 'n Go card, and some malls offer discounts to cardholders, so ask at the gate.

Practical tips

Malls are heavily air-conditioned, so bring a light layer. Cards and DuitNow QR are accepted almost everywhere, though food-court stalls may prefer cash. Most malls have a prayer room (surau). Look for the halal certificate at each restaurant or stall if it matters to you, as not every outlet in a food court is halal.

What is the best shopping mall in Ipoh for tourists?

Ipoh Parade is the most convenient for visitors staying near the Old Town or Greentown: it has a department store, cinema, bowling and a supermarket under one roof. For a bigger AEON mall, AEON Mall Kinta City and AEON Mall Ipoh Station 18 are the main choices, but both need a car or Grab.

What time do shopping malls in Ipoh open?

Most open daily from about 10 am to 10 pm. AEON Mall Kinta City opens at 9 am and AEON Mall Ipoh Station 18 and Kinta City close at 10:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. The Mydin hypermarket at Meru Raya opens at 8:30 am. Restaurants and cinemas inside malls often stay open later than the shops.
