Ipoh Souvenirs: 4 Places to Buy Gifts, Snacks and Crafts

Concubine Lane in Ipoh Old Town with red lanterns and a table of snacks and biscuits outside a shophouse, a popular place to buy Ipoh souvenirs

Ipoh souvenirs are mostly food: white coffee, fragrant biscuits, kaya puffs and Tambun pomelo, plus a small number of handmade crafts. Almost everything worth buying is in the Old Town, within a short walk of each other, so one relaxed morning covers most of it.

This guide covers 4 places to buy Ipoh souvenirs, checked in October 2026, with addresses, what to buy and what to expect to pay where we could confirm it. Ipoh has few dedicated souvenir shops, so the list is short. For the food products themselves and the shops that make them, see the Ipoh local products guide linked at the end of this page.

Concubine Lane (Lorong Panglima) is a narrow pedestrian lane of old shophouses that has become the busiest souvenir street in Ipoh. The shops and tables along it sell Ipoh products such as biscuits, white coffee packets, tea, candy, chips and other Asian snacks, along with some handicrafts and tofu fah (beancurd pudding).

Prices are tourist-oriented, so compare two or three shops before buying and ask to try a biscuit first. The lane gets crowded at weekends; early on a weekday is more relaxed. Kong Heng Square is a few steps away.

Kong Heng Square is a restored heritage courtyard in the Old Town that hosts a weekend market. Vendors listed in 2025 include Bits & Bobs, Ipoh Craft Nerds and Why Not Elephants, selling local handicrafts, prints and small gifts.

Stores here tend to close around 4 pm to 5 pm, so come in the morning or early afternoon.

Yee Hup is a local maker of heong peah (hiong peah), the flaky, sweet Ipoh biscuit traditionally baked in a charcoal-fired oven. Its Old Town branch at 151 Jalan Sultan Iskandar sells the biscuits individually wrapped in several flavours, baked the same day. The company's headquarters is at 7 Jalan Sri Ampang, Taman Ipoh Jaya, and there is another branch near the Perak Tong cave temple on Jalan Kuala Kangsar.

The biscuits travel well in a box and are light, which makes them an easy gift. Eat them within the printed date, as the pastry softens with humidity.

How to Plan Your Ipoh Souvenir Shopping

How to plan your Ipoh souvenir shopping

Start in the Old Town with Concubine Lane and Kong Heng Square, then walk to 22 Hale Street for handmade gifts and to Jalan Sultan Iskandar for biscuits. The whole circuit is walkable in about two hours. Go in the morning, before the heat and the weekend crowds.

What to buy

The classic Ipoh souvenirs are heong peah biscuits, white coffee in 3-in-1 or 2-in-1 packets, kaya puffs, peanut candy and Tambun pomelo. Handicraft gifts are limited, so buy handmade items from the charity shops if you want something that is not food.

Packing and customs

Pack biscuits and coffee packets in a hard box so they do not crush. Pomelo is heavy and bulky, and fresh fruit and cooked meat such as salted chicken may not be allowed through customs in some countries, so check the rules for your destination.
