Melaka Hospitals: 4 Hospitals with 24-Hour Emergency Departments
Melaka hospitals are close to where most visitors stay: two private hospitals sit about a kilometre from Jonker Street, and the main government hospital is a short drive north of the old town of Melaka City (often spelt Malacca in English). All four hospitals in this guide run a 24-hour emergency department.
This guide covers 4 Melaka hospitals, one government and three private, with addresses, phone numbers and emergency information taken from each hospital's own website in October 2026. We list only hospitals whose emergency hours we could confirm on a page we read; there are also government district hospitals in Alor Gajah and Jasin. Fees are not published online, so ask for an estimate at registration.
Government Hospital in Melaka
Hospital Melaka
Hospital Melaka is the main Ministry of Health hospital for the state and takes referrals from government and private clinics across Melaka. Its website says the Emergency and Trauma Department (Jabatan Kecemasan dan Trauma) runs 24 hours, and patients are triaged into red (critical), yellow (semi-critical) and green (non-critical) zones. Main line: 06-289 2344.
Waits for green-zone cases can be long. As at any government hospital, foreign visitors pay non-citizen rates, so travellers with insurance often choose one of the private hospitals below.
Private Hospitals in Melaka
Mahkota Medical Centre
Mahkota Medical Centre opened on 30 September 1994 and stands on Jalan Merdeka in Bandar Hilir, a short walk from the Mahkota Parade mall. Its Emergency and Trauma Centre is staffed by emergency physicians and says its services are available 24/7, with the laboratory and radiology next to the A&E department. Hotline: 06-285 2999.
The hospital has pages for international patients and Singapore Medisave users. Patient parking costs RM4 for the first two hours on weekdays.
Putra Specialist Hospital
Putra Specialist Hospital (Putra Hospital Melaka) is a 241-bed private hospital in a 12-storey building on Jalan Bendahara, north of the old town and close to Jalan Bunga Raya. Its website says the Accident and Emergency Department operates 24 hours and includes ambulance transport. Phone: 06-283 5888.
It is the nearest private emergency department for visitors staying around Jalan Bunga Raya and the upper Melaka River.
Pantai Hospital Melaka
Pantai Hospital Melaka, formerly known as Pantai Hospital Ayer Keroh, opened in 1986 and has 241 licensed beds. Its Emergency Department is open 24 hours for walk-in patients, and the hospital runs a 24-hour ambulance service with house calls within 15 km. Emergency and ambulance: 06-231 3610. Main line: 06-231 9999. WhatsApp: 016-301 2999.
It is on the Ayer Keroh side of the city, north-east of the old town, so it suits visitors staying around Ayer Keroh or arriving on the North-South Expressway.
Tips for Using Melaka Hospitals
Calling an ambulance
Dial 999, or 112 from a mobile phone. Pantai Hospital Melaka and Putra Specialist Hospital also run their own ambulances, but 999 is the safest number if you are unsure where you are.
Government or private
Government hospitals charge less but waits are longer, and non-citizens pay higher rates than Malaysians. Private hospitals usually ask for a deposit before admission, so bring your passport and travel insurance details.
Which hospital is nearest
From Jonker Street and Dutch Square, Mahkota Medical Centre and Putra Specialist Hospital are each about 1 km away in a straight line. Hospital Melaka is about 3 km north, and Pantai Hospital Melaka is further out in Ayer Keroh.
