Johor Bahru Night View: 6 Waterfront and City Spots

Johor Bahru night view: the city centre skyline at dusk with lit towers and the Causeway road across the water

A Johor Bahru night view is mostly about the water: the Strait of Johor runs along the whole southern edge of Johor Bahru (JB), with the lights of Singapore on the far side. This guide covers 6 places checked for October 2026: two waterfronts and a city beach, the lit city square, the night zoo and the state mosque at sunset.

We found no public observation deck to recommend, so the best views are from the shoreline. Four of the six are free, and the city-centre spots are close to the Causeway. Rooftop bars are in the Johor Bahru bars guide.

Puteri Harbour

Persiaran Puteri Selatan, Puteri Harbour, Iskandar Puteri, about 30 to 40 minutes by car from JB city centre · Promenade open at all times · FreeFree · Outdoors · Google Maps · Verified Oct 2026

Yachts and boats moored at Puteri Harbour marina in Iskandar Puteri at dusk, with apartment blocks along the waterfront

Puteri Harbour is a marina and waterfront district in Iskandar Puteri with restaurants, hotels and an international ferry terminal for boats to Indonesia. The promenade around the marina is open at all times and is a calm place for a sunset walk.

Have dinner at one of the waterfront restaurants and walk the marina afterwards. It is about 10 minutes by car from LEGOLAND Malaysia, so it works well at the end of a theme park day.

Danga Bay at Sunset

Persiaran Abu Bakar Sultan, Danga Bay, about 7 km west of the city centre · Open at all times; sunset is usually around 7 pm · FreeFree · Outdoors · Google Maps · Verified Oct 2026

Danga Bay is the largest waterfront park in Johor Bahru, on the Strait of Johor, and the travel portal johor.travel highlights it for its sunset views. The palm-lined promenade is popular with families and joggers in the early evening.

Seafood restaurants along this stretch of coast make it an easy dinner stop. Daytime details are in the Johor Bahru attractions guide.

Stulang Laut Beach

Jalan Ibrahim Sultan, Stulang Laut, about 5 minutes by car east of the Causeway checkpoint · Open at all times · FreeFree · Outdoors · Google Maps · Verified Oct 2026

The sandy beach and palm-lined seafront road at Stulang Laut in Johor Bahru by day, looking along the Strait of Johor

This short strip of sand along the seafront road in Stulang Laut looks out over the Strait of Johor towards Singapore. It is a local place to relax by the water, and after dark you can see the lights on the far shore.

It is a local spot rather than a resort beach, and the seafood restaurants and the Stulang Laut ferry terminal are nearby. Do not swim here.

Dataran Bandaraya at Night

Jalan Abu Bakar Sultan, Johor Bahru city centre · Open at all times · FreeFree · Outdoors · Google Maps · Verified Oct 2026

The city square, completed in 1994, is dominated by a 51-metre clock tower designed to echo the old state secretariat and the state mosque, and it hosts festivals and public events. Older descriptions mention food stalls here in the evening, which we could not confirm, so treat it as a short stop.

It is a short walk or ride from the Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque, so you can combine the two after sunset.

Johor Zoo Night Zoo

Jalan Gertak Merah, Taman Istana, Johor Bahru city centre · Night session Fri–Sun, public and school holidays 8 – 11 pm, last entry 10 pm · Malaysians RM10 adult, RM5 child or senior; non-Malaysians RM30 (check night prices when booking)Family · Weekends only · Google Maps · Verified Oct 2026

Since its 2024 reopening, Johor Zoo has run an evening session on Friday to Sunday, public holidays and school holidays. The zoo closes between 6 pm and 8 pm, then reopens until 11 pm, which is a cooler time to see the animals.

Book a time slot on the official ticket site (zootiket.johor.gov.my). The daytime visit is covered in the Johor Bahru attractions guide.

Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque at Sunset

Jalan Gertak Merah (off Jalan Skudai), Johor Bahru city centre · Sunset is usually around 7 pm; check visiting hours · FreeFree · Modest dress · Google Maps · Verified Oct 2026

The Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque on its hill in Johor Bahru by day, with three domed towers and palm trees

The state mosque stands on a hill above the Strait of Johor, so its cream walls and clock-tower minarets catch the last light in the evening. From the grounds you look out over the water towards Singapore.

Sunset is close to the Maghrib prayer, so the mosque will be busy. Watch from outside, dress modestly if you go in, and do not enter during prayers. The mosque itself is in the Johor Bahru temples guide.

How to Plan a Johor Bahru Night View Evening

In the city centre, start at the Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque for sunset, then drive or walk a few minutes to Dataran Bandaraya. On Friday to Sunday, book the 8 pm session at Johor Zoo nearby. Finish with dinner by the water at Stulang Laut.

In Iskandar Puteri, end a LEGOLAND day with sunset and dinner at Puteri Harbour. Danga Bay sits between the two areas on the coast road.

Evening traffic towards the Causeway and the Second Link is heavy, especially on Friday and Sunday nights. If you are heading back to Singapore, check the checkpoint queues before you set off.
