Night Markets in Ipoh: 9 Pasar Malam by Day of the Week
Night markets in Ipoh, called pasar malam in Malay, set up in a different neighbourhood on a fixed day of the week, usually from late afternoon until 9 or 10 pm. Two markets in the city trade every day. The rest rotate through the residential estates, so the right one depends on which day you are in town.
This guide covers 9 night markets in Ipoh, with the day each one runs, what it is known for and halal notes. The two daily markets were reported on by Ipoh Echo in 2026; the weekly markets are named by several 2024 to 2026 guides, and most also appear on OpenStreetMap on the same day, but no official timetable is published, so start and finish times are given as a guide only. Ipoh has many more small estate markets than this. A day-by-day table follows the list.

Daily night markets in Ipoh
Ipoh Night Market (Uptown)
This market trades every day on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, opposite AEON Kinta City, east of the city centre. Ipoh Echo described it in August 2026 as the Ipoh Night Market opposite AEON Kinta City, when it hosted a five-day Merdeka food festival. Stalls sell grilled satay, fried snacks, sugarcane juice, fresh fruit and kuih. A June 2024 guide notes that the food range includes Thai, Western, Chinese and Korean stalls, and that it opens from late afternoon and can run past midnight at weekends; check current times before going.
It is a drive from the Old Town, about 5 km, so use Grab or a car. Stalls are a mix of Malay, Chinese and other vendors; look for halal signs where it matters.
Gerbang Malam Ipoh
Gerbang Malam, "night gate", is a night bazaar under an arch on Jalan Dato Tahwil Azar in the New Town, a short walk from the Jalan Yau Tet Shin chicken shops. It is mainly a shopping market, with stalls selling clothes, shoes, bags, watches, toys and souvenirs, although food and drink stalls and tables also set up in the street.
It is the easiest night market for visitors staying in the centre, since you can walk there after dinner. It has run for more than 20 years, and Ipoh Echo reported through 2026 on its traders, its unfinished roof and illegal parking attendants from about 7.30 pm, so park in a proper lot. Bargaining is normal for goods, not for food.
Monday to Wednesday markets
Pasar Malam Gunung Rapat
The Monday market in Taman Ipoh Jaya, Gunung Rapat, sells apam balik, fried noodles, laksa, sugarcane juice, fresh fruit and cold drinks. Gunung Rapat is a large residential area south-east of the centre, and this is a local neighbourhood market rather than a tourist one.
Pasar Malam Bandar Baru Menglembu
This market in Menglembu, on the south-west side of Ipoh, runs on Monday and Thursday evenings. Stalls sell fried snacks, hot noodle plates, sweet treats, fried jackfruit, sweet potato and apam balik. Menglembu is known for its peanuts, so look for roasted nuts too. The only times we found come from a June 2024 guide, so check before visiting.
Taman Ipoh Timur Night Market (Ipoh Garden East)
The Tuesday market in Ipoh Garden East is a food-led market with Hokkien mee, rojak, fried kuey teow, black tofu (a deep-fried fermented tofu), Chinese sausage and fried crab listed by guides. The area is mostly Chinese-Malaysian, so pork stalls are common.
Published start times vary between about 6 pm and 6.30 pm, so arrive after 6.30 pm.
Bercham Night Market (Taman Pakatan)
The Wednesday Bercham market is one of the longer-running weekly markets on the north side of Ipoh and is reported to stay open later than most, to about 11 pm. Guides list charcoal-grilled chicken, chee cheong fun, rojak, yong tau foo, coconut juice and ready-to-eat snacks, with typical spend of RM3 to RM15.
Bercham is about 8 km from the Old Town, so go by Grab or car.
Thursday to Saturday markets
Pasar Malam Taman Pengkalan Jaya (SPPK)
The Thursday market on Jalan Pegoh is often listed as the Taman SPPK night market. Guides mention laksa, satay, fried chicken, roti canai, grilled seafood, lok lok (skewers cooked in a pot of broth) and bubble tea. It is in the south of the city, near Pengkalan.
First Garden Night Market (Taman Pertama)
First Garden is one of the bigger weekly markets, with about 200 stalls according to a 2026 guide. Listings mention assam laksa, grilled satay, fried chicken, seafood and local desserts. It is on the west side of Ipoh near Silibin, and the crowd is mostly local families.
Guides give slightly different start times between 4 pm and 5.30 pm, so arrive around 6 pm to see the full line-up.
Ipoh Waterfront City Pasar Malam
The Saturday market at Waterfront City has more than 120 stalls, according to a 2026 guide, selling street food, bubble tea and fruit. It is south-west of the city centre towards Lahat, so it suits a car or Grab trip rather than a walk.

Use this table to match a market to the days you are in town. Times are the typical ranges given by guides, not official hours; individual stalls open and close at their own pace. There is no weekly market listed for Sunday in the guides we checked.

Tips for visiting a pasar malam in Ipoh
何时去
Most weekly markets start between 4.30 pm and 6.30 pm and wind down between 9 pm and 11 pm. Arrive around 6 pm for the full choice of stalls. During Ramadan, many markets are joined or replaced by Ramadan bazaars that open in the late afternoon, and schedules can shift around public holidays.
付款与价格
Carry cash in RM1, RM5 and RM10 notes. A few traders show a DuitNow QR code, but foreign cards are rarely accepted. Guides put snacks at RM2 to RM10 and cooked dishes at RM3 to RM15. Food prices are fixed; only clothes and goods are bargained for.
清真食物
Most Ipoh markets mix Malay, Chinese and Indian vendors. Stalls run by Muslim traders usually show a halal notice; Chinese stalls such as those selling Hokkien mee or Chinese sausage often use pork. When it matters, ask the trader.
交通
Only Gerbang Malam is within walking distance of the centre. The residential markets in Bercham, Gunung Rapat, Menglembu and Silibin are 5 to 10 km from the Old Town, so use Grab or a car and arrange pickup a street away from closed roads. Weekly schedules are not published by one official source and can change, so check the day before. For daytime food, see our Ipoh hawker food guide.
