About Nattukkottai Chettiar Temple

The Nattukkottai Chettiar Temple was founded around 1854 by the Chettiar community and is dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the end point of Penang's Thaipusam silver chariot procession, and the recesses of its roof are lined with religious paintings brought from India.

Visitors are welcome outside puja times with shoes removed and modest dress. The temple closes from 12:30 to 4:30 pm. It sits near the foot of the Waterfall Hilltop Temple steps and the Penang Botanic Gardens, so all three fit into one morning.
