About Tho Yuen Restaurant
Tho Yuen is an old Cantonese dim sum and chicken rice house on Campbell Street, and one of the last places in George Town where dim sum still comes round on trolleys and trays. Breakfast is the time to come: siu mai, har gow, lor mai kai (glutinous rice with chicken) and egg tarts, with a pot of Chinese tea.
Later in the morning the kitchen switches to Hainanese chicken rice and Cantonese noodle dishes such as hong tou meen. Prices are low, most baskets cost a few ringgit each, and a full breakfast for two rarely passes RM40. It opens at 6 am, closes by mid-afternoon and is closed on Tuesdays. Popular items run out by late morning.
