The Esplanade is a large public green along the waterfront, flanked by colonial-era buildings โ the Town Hall, City Hall and Fort Cornwallis โ that are floodlit after sunset. The open field, park benches and sea breeze make this one of the most relaxing spots in George Town for an evening sit-down, free of charge.
Locals gather here after dinner to walk, chat or simply enjoy the cooler air. Food trucks and hawker carts sometimes set up along the perimeter on weekends. The area is well-lit and safe throughout the evening. Walk south from here to reach the clan jetties in about 10 minutes, or north along Lebuh Farquhar to Farquhar's Bar at the E&O Hotel for a drink.

Walked along the seawall around 8 pm and the city lights had just come on. You can see all the way across the Strait of Malacca to the mainland. The colonial Town Hall and City Hall buildings are beautifully floodlit at night.

One of the most relaxing evening spots in George Town. Locals were jogging, families sitting on benches, and tourists snapping sunset photos. The breeze from the sea makes it cooler than the streets inland. Completely free to visit.
