About Coffee Stain by Joseph
Coffee Stain is a family-run cafe that opened in 2012 at Publika in Solaris Dutamas, near Mont Kiara, when specialty coffee in Kuala Lumpur was still new. It was started by three siblings, Sylvia, Sam and Edmond: Sylvia handles bean sourcing, Edmond the roasting and Sam the bar. Beans are bought directly from farms and roasted in-house every day. In 2026 the cafe entered The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops list for the first time, at number 84, one of two Malaysian cafes on the list.
The house blend uses beans from Papua New Guinea, Guatemala and Colombia, and the menu runs from an everyday flat white to rare lots such as Panama Geisha. Publika is the flagship; the family opened a second outlet on Jalan Telawi 3 in Bangsar in 2025 and a third at Gamuda Gardens in Rawang. There is no Coffee Stain in TTDI itself, but Publika is the nearest branch, a short drive away.
What to Order at Coffee Stain

- Cool Cube โ Ice cubes made from Colombian coffee, topped with warm milk, so the drink gets stronger as the cubes melt.
- Single-origin filter (from about RM15) โ Rotating beans, with rare lots such as Panama Geisha at the top of the range.
- Big Breakfast (RM32) and Cheezy Chicken (RM28) โ The best-known brunch plates; souffle pancakes, eggs Benedict, pasta and cakes are also on the menu.

Visiting Tips
Open daily from 8 am to 8 pm at Publika. Weekend late mornings are the busiest time, so arrive before 10 am for an easier table. Publika has a basement car park; without a car, Grab from Mont Kiara, Sri Hartamas or TTDI is the simplest option. Combine a visit with the galleries and shops in the Publika complex or the Federal Territory Mosque, 600 metres away.
