Aquaria KLCC is an oceanarium on the concourse level of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, a short walk from the Petronas Twin Towers and Suria KLCC. Opened in August 2005, it covers about 60,000 square feet on two levels and holds more than 5,000 animals of over 250 species. The route follows water from the highland streams of Malaysia through rivers, flooded forest and mangroves down to the open sea, and ends in its best-known feature: a 90-metre underwater tunnel with a moving walkway, where sand tiger sharks, rays and turtles swim overhead.
This guide covers the aquarium's background, the zones and what to look for, feeding times and special experiences, ticket prices and hours (checked October 2026), directions and tips.

History of Aquaria KLCC
Aquaria KLCC was built as part of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre development, in the basement of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, which sits at the southern end of KLCC Park. Work on the aquarium started in 2003, and it officially opened in August 2005. It is operated by Aquawalk Sdn Bhd. Besides the exhibits, the complex includes a themed retail area of around 5,000 square feet and food outlets.
From the start the aquarium was designed around a story rather than a simple row of tanks: the "land to sea" journey of water, beginning with the misty highlands and rainforest streams of Malaysia and ending in coral reefs and the deep ocean.
What to See at Aquaria KLCC
The route runs in one direction through themed zones. The names and layout are updated from time to time, but a visit typically covers:
Evolution Zone and The Stream
The visit begins with exhibits on how life evolved in water, then follows a highland stream down through the rainforest, with freshwater fish, amphibians and reptiles from Malaysian rivers.
Riverbank Jungle and Otter Den
A family favourite: Asian small-clawed otters, the smallest otter species, playing in their enclosure, along with other riverbank animals.
Flooded Forest
This zone recreates a flooded rainforest and is home to large South American river fish, notably the arapaima, one of the largest freshwater fish in the world, as well as red-bellied piranhas and electric eels.
Shipwreck, mangroves and coastal zone
Tanks themed around a shipwreck and the mangrove coast show the animals of brackish water and shallow seas, with seahorses, jellyfish, crabs and reef fish.
Living Ocean and the underwater tunnel
The highlight is the Living Ocean, a large ocean tank crossed by a 90-metre transparent tunnel with a travelator. More than seven species of shark swim here, including the sand tiger shark, alongside rays, sea turtles, giant groupers and shoals of reef fish. You can step off the moving walkway to watch for as long as you like.
Feeding times and experiences
- Daily feedings: scheduled sessions run across different zones between about 10:45 am and 5:45 pm. Special feedings for the arapaima (Flooded Forest) and sand tiger sharks (Aquatheatre) take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays in the mid-afternoon. Check the board at the entrance for the day's times.
- Dive with Sharks: certified divers (Open Water or above) can dive in the Living Ocean tank for RM550 per person, about two hours including briefing. Maximum two divers per session, not available on Mondays, Wednesdays or Saturdays, and bookings must be made at least two weeks ahead with full payment.
- Other experiences: the aquarium has also offered a shark cage experience for non-divers and "Sleep with Sharks" overnight stays for children. Check the official website for current availability and prices.

Tips for Visiting
- Weekday mornings are the quietest; weekends, public holidays and school holidays get crowded, particularly in the tunnel.
- Plan your route around a feeding session; the shark and arapaima feeds on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoons are the most popular.
- Photography is allowed, but switch off the flash so as not to disturb the animals.
- The aquarium is indoors and air-conditioned, which makes it a good choice for a rainy afternoon or the hottest part of the day.
- Pair it with KLCC Park and the Lake Symphony fountain show in the evening, or with Petrosains in Suria KLCC.
