Night Markets in Melaka: Jonker Walk, Night Events and Ramadan Bazaars
Night markets in Melaka centre on one famous street. Every weekend, Jonker Street in the old town of Melaka (also spelt Malacca) closes to cars and fills with food and souvenir stalls. Locals also shop at weekly neighbourhood pasar malam, but their schedules are not published anywhere we could check, so this guide does not list them.
This guide covers 4 night markets and night events in Melaka that we could confirm in October 2026 from the city council (MBMB) website and recent food guides: the weekly Jonker Walk market, a monthly council night event, and two Ramadan bazaars that return each year. It is a short list on purpose; we only include markets with a current, published schedule.

Weekly and monthly night markets in Melaka
Jonker Walk Night Market
Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Jalan Hang Jebat closes to traffic and becomes the Jonker Walk night market from 6 pm until midnight, according to the Melaka city council (MBMB) and an October 2026 food guide. Stalls line the street outside the old shophouses selling souvenirs, handicrafts, antiques and street food. The 2026 guide mentions takoyaki, squid on sticks, fruit smoothies and fried sweet potato balls; in May 2024 one stall was charging RM13 for fried oyster with egg and RM8 for fried carrot cake.
The market spills into side streets such as Jalan Hang Kasturi. Come soon after 6 pm if you want room to browse, and bring cash, since many small stalls take nothing else. The road is also closed for special events, such as Chinese New Year eve, when MBMB closed it from 6 pm to midnight on 16 February 2026.
Melaka Bila Larut Malam
"Melaka Bila Larut Malam" ("Melaka when the night is late") is a night programme the city council runs about once a month in the vehicle-free zone around the Stadthuys. It is not a market as such: the 2026 editions had stage shows by the council's band and cultural troupe, themed nights for Chinese New Year (with fireworks) and Hari Raya, and lucky draws. MBMB said that in 2026 visitors wearing traditional Melaka ethnic dress get free entry.
When it started in June 2024 it ran from 11 pm to 2 am, with late opening and RM10 tickets at attractions such as the Melaka River Cruise and Menara Taming Sari. The latest edition we found was on 2 May 2026, and times and offers change from one edition to the next, so check the MBMB website or Facebook page before planning around it. Jonker Walk is a five-minute walk across the river.
Ramadan and Hari Raya bazaars
During Ramadan, Melaka has many bazar Ramadan (food bazaars that open in the late afternoon for the breaking of the fast) and bazar Aidilfitri (Hari Raya shopping bazaars that run into the night). MBMB invited organisers for the 2027 (1448H) bazaars in August 2026, so expect them again next Ramadan. These are two that MBMB featured in 2026.
Bazar Ikonik Banda Hilir
Bazar Ikonik Banda Hilir is a Hari Raya bazaar in the centre of the city, held for the second year from 1 March 2026. MBMB reported thousands of visitors shopping for Hari Raya, and the Chief Minister visited on the opening night.
It runs only in the weeks before Hari Raya Aidilfitri. Food stalls at Ramadan and Raya bazaars are run mainly by Muslim traders, but check the sign at each stall.
Bazar Aidilfitri Klebang
Klebang, on the coast north-west of the city, hosts one of the Hari Raya bazaars that the mayor visited in February 2026.
Like the Banda Hilir bazaar, it only runs during Ramadan. Combine it with a coconut shake in Klebang if you visit before 6.30 pm.
Tips for night markets in Melaka
Neighbourhood pasar malam
The city council says cheap local food from RM1 can be found at the pasar malam held around the city by MBMB and local communities. These weekly markets move between housing estates on fixed days, but no official schedule is published online and we could not confirm a current one, so we have not listed them. Ask your hotel which market is on that evening, and expect them to run from late afternoon to about 10 pm.
When to go to Jonker Walk
Arrive soon after 6 pm for the most room to browse. The street is closed to cars while the market is on, so walk from your hotel or take Grab to the Stadthuys and cross the bridge on foot.
Paying and halal food
Carry RM5 and RM10 notes. Some traders show a DuitNow QR code, but few take foreign cards. Jonker Walk has a mix of Chinese, Malay and other traders, so check for a halal sign or ask; Ramadan bazaars are mostly halal.
Eating before or after
Satay celup shops and the Portuguese Settlement seafood stalls are open in the evening, and Jonker Street has chicken rice ball and cendol shops that close earlier in the day. See our Melaka hawker food guide for hours.
