About Pengkalan Balak Beach
Pengkalan Balak is the long beach just north of Tanjung Bidara, lined by a coastal road with chalets and beach lodges. It is quieter than Tanjung Bidara and good for a walk along the sand.
At the Padang Kemunting end is the Turtle Conservation and Information Centre, which runs a hatchery and research and awareness programmes for hawksbill turtles and painted terrapins. Tourism Melaka lists it as open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (other sources say 4 pm and closed on public holidays), phone 06-384 6754, so call ahead. The hatching season runs roughly from March to September; if you see a turtle on the beach at night, keep your distance and do not use a torch or flash.
