Shopping Malls in Selangor: 11 Malls Outside KL and What Each Is Best For
Shopping malls in Selangor are where much of the Klang Valley actually shops. The state wraps around Kuala Lumpur, and its suburbs (Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Klang and the towns towards the airport) hold several of the largest malls in the country. They are bigger, newer and easier to park at than most malls in central KL, but you will usually need the MRT, LRT or a Grab to reach them.
This guide covers 11 shopping malls in Selangor, checked in October 2026, with addresses, opening hours, anchor stores and the town each is in. Malls inside the Kuala Lumpur city boundary, such as Mid Valley, Pavilion and Sunway Velocity, are on our Kuala Lumpur malls guide instead. Store line-ups change often, so check the mall directory before travelling for one particular shop.

Sunway Pyramid
Sunway Pyramid opened in 1997 and is known for its Egyptian-themed architecture, with a giant lion statue at the main entrance and an indoor ice-skating rink. The mall lists more than 1,000 retail, dining and entertainment brands. Its newer Oasis wing, opened in November 2024, has what was described as the largest MUJI and LEGO stores in Malaysia, and a further Terrace extension by the main entrance was completed in July 2025.
Sunway Lagoon theme park is next door, so the two make an easy full day for families. The mall is in Bandar Sunway, part of Subang Jaya, and is linked to the BRT Sunway Line; from central KL a Grab takes about 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic. Concierge: +60 3-7494 3100.
1 Utama Shopping Centre
1 Utama opened in 1995 and has grown into one of the largest malls in Malaysia, with more than 700 shops over about 5 million square feet. Anchors include AEON, Parkson and a Jaya Grocer supermarket. It has an indoor rainforest that opened in 2003 and the Secret Garden, a large rooftop garden, as well as a FlowRider surf pool, an indoor skydiving tunnel, a climbing wall and bowling.
The newest section, 1 Utama E, opened in January 2024. The mall connects to Bandar Utama MRT station on the Kajang line, which makes it one of the easiest big Selangor malls to reach without a car. Customer service: +60 3-7613 8118.
The Curve
The Curve opened in 2005 and was billed as Malaysia's first open-air pedestrian mall. It has about 200 retail and 60 food outlets on three floors, with outdoor restaurants along The Street and a street market on Saturdays and Sundays according to the state tourism board listing.
It stands next to IKEA and IPC Shopping Centre, linked by bridges, so the three are easy to combine in one visit. Mutiara Damansara MRT station is connected by a covered walkway.
IPC Shopping Centre
IPC Shopping Centre opened in December 2003 as the first shopping centre in Malaysia anchored by IKEA. It is a family-oriented mall over five retail levels, focused on home and living, with tenants including IKEA, the B.I.G. grocer and Harvey Norman.
IPC is next to The Curve, so most visitors walk between the two. It is a good stop if you are setting up an apartment in the Klang Valley or want Swedish food at the IKEA restaurant.
Paradigm Mall
Paradigm Mall opened in 2012 next to the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP) in Kelana Jaya. It has about 300 outlets over six levels and 700,000 square feet, aimed at young people and families, with a Lotus's hypermarket inside.
The Le Meridien Petaling Jaya hotel is part of the same development. It is a convenient mall for visitors staying around Kelana Jaya or Subang, though less of a destination than Sunway Pyramid or 1 Utama.
Tropicana Gardens Mall
Tropicana Gardens Mall opened on 5 March 2020 with about one million square feet of space, seven storeys and around 300 stores, aimed at a middle to upper-income neighbourhood crowd. It sits on Persiaran Surian in the Kota Damansara area.
It is connected directly to Surian MRT station, one stop from Mutiara Damansara, so it is easy to pair with The Curve and IPC. It is a calmer alternative to the bigger malls at weekends.
Empire Shopping Gallery
Empire Shopping Gallery (ESG) is a mid-sized mall in central Subang Jaya with more than 180 stores, mostly fashion, beauty and restaurants, in a bright modern building with a distinctive white wave facade.
Subang Parade and the AEON BiG hypermarket are a short walk east along Jalan SS 16/1, so you can do both on foot. Expect heavy traffic around SS16 on weekend evenings.
IOI City Mall
IOI City Mall opened in November 2014 in IOI Resort City, beside Putrajaya but inside Sepang district, Selangor. Its second phase opened in August 2022 and made it the largest shopping mall in Malaysia, with more than 650 stores. Anchors include Parkson, AEON, Lotus's, Harvey Norman and Nitori.
It has two ice rinks, including the Olympic-sized Icescape, the District 21 adventure park and a GSC cinema with an IMAX hall. It is a long drive from KL city (allow 40 minutes or more), so plan a half day. Customer service: +60 3-8328 8900.
Setia City Mall
Setia City Mall is described as the biggest mall in Shah Alam. Its first phase opened in 2011 and the second in 2021, giving about 1.18 million square feet and more than 300 stores. Anchors are AEON (which replaced the former Lulu Hypermarket), Parkson, Harvey Norman and a nine-hall GSC cinema.
A 10.5-acre park with a playground sits next to the mall, which makes it a good family stop on the western side of the Klang Valley. It is best reached by car or Grab.
Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang
Mitsui Outlet Park is a factory outlet mall about 6 km from KLIA and klia2 and about 60 km from KL. It sells upper-middle to high-end brands at off-season discounts, and has a Japan Avenue section of Japanese shops and food, plus restaurants and a food court.
It fits well into a long layover or the day you fly out. We could not load the mall's own website when checking, so confirm shuttle buses to the airport terminals before relying on them, and travel light if you plan to shop on the way to a flight.
AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi
AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi is the main large mall in Klang, with more than a million square feet and over 160 specialty stores around an AEON department store and supermarket. AEON lists it as open until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, later than most Selangor malls.
It is in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, south of Klang town, and pairs with a morning of Klang bak kut teh or a walk along Little India. A Lotus's hypermarket is nearby on Jalan Batu Nilam 6/KS6.
Tips for Visiting Shopping Malls in Selangor
Opening hours and crowds
Most Selangor malls open daily from 10 am to 10 pm, and some (1 Utama, AEON malls) stay open 30 to 60 minutes later on Friday and Saturday. Weekday mornings are quietest. Weekends, school holidays and the weeks before Hari Raya, Deepavali and Chinese New Year are busiest, and the car parks at Sunway Pyramid, 1 Utama and IOI City Mall fill early.
Getting there
The MRT Kajang line serves 1 Utama (Bandar Utama), The Curve and IPC (Mutiara Damansara) and Tropicana Gardens Mall (Surian). Sunway Pyramid is on the BRT Sunway Line. IOI City Mall, Setia City Mall, AEON Bukit Tinggi and Mitsui Outlet Park are best reached by car or Grab. Highway traffic into and out of KL is heavy at rush hour.
Tax and tourist discounts
There is no tax refund for tourists in Malaysia: the Tourist Refund Scheme ended with the Goods and Services Tax in 2018, and the Sales and Service Tax in shop prices is not refundable. Some malls run tourist privilege cards from time to time; ask at the concierge.
Practical tips
Malls are heavily air-conditioned, so bring a light layer. Cards and DuitNow QR are accepted almost everywhere. Most malls have a prayer room (surau). Not every outlet in a food court is halal, so look for the halal certificate at each stall if it matters to you.
