About Bukit Tabur

Bukit Tabur is a narrow quartz ridge above the Klang Gates reservoir, about a 30-minute drive from the city centre. The views over the reservoir and the forested hills at sunrise and sunset are among the best near KL, but the route involves scrambling on all fours, rope sections with unreliable anchors and steep drops on both sides, and there have been fatal falls. It is not suitable for beginners.

Since 1 April 2025 a permit is required for every hike, applied for online through the Selangor Forestry Department SeForest e-Permit system (forestry.selangor.gov.my) at least 48 hours ahead. The fee is RM5 per person and a registered guide is mandatory; hiking without a permit can be fined up to RM30,000. The West trail takes about 3 to 6 hours return depending on fitness, and the East trail about 1.5 to 2 hours to the top. Start early, carry plenty of water and wear shoes with good grip.
