Fresh durian is banned on most airlines and in many building lobbies, but the processed versions — freeze-dried durian, durian chocolate, durian cookies, durian-flavoured coffee and durian candy — travel without issue and carry the distinctive flavour without the pungent aroma. Freeze-dried Musang King durian chips are the premium option, preserving the creamy texture and intense flavour of Malaysia's most prized durian variety.
Freeze-dried durian packs cost RM20 to RM40 depending on weight and variety. Durian chocolates (often from Beryl's) run RM10 to RM25. Supermarkets carry the widest range, and KLIA duty-free stocks travel-ready packs. All commercially packaged durian products are sealed to contain odour and clear customs without problems.
