About Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque

The state mosque of Johor was built between 1892 and 1900 on the orders of Sultan Abu Bakar. Its architect mixed Victorian, Moorish and Malay styles, and the four minarets are shaped like British clock towers. It holds about 2,000 worshippers.

The mosque stands on a hill above the Strait of Johor, a few minutes from Johor Zoo and the city square. The evening view is covered in the Johor Bahru night view guide.
