This guide covers 8 supermarkets in Johor Bahru, checked in October 2026 against the chains' own store pages and mall directories. Hours are the stores' own; where a store did not publish them we say so. The AEON malls in our shopping malls guide also have AEON supermarkets.

Tips for Shopping at Supermarkets in Johor Bahru
Opening hours
Most Lotus's hypermarkets and Econsave open at 8 am and Mydin at 8:30 am, earlier than mall shops, and close at about 10 pm. Stores inside malls, such as Lotus's KSL City, follow mall hours of 10 am to 10 pm. Convenience stores and small minimarts stay open later.
What to buy
Bottled water, snacks, instant noodles, coffee mixes, toiletries and packed local biscuits are all cheaper here than in tourist shops. Check customs allowances before carrying large amounts back to Singapore.
Halal and non-halal
Stores that sell pork and alcohol keep them in a separate non-halal section with its own checkout, and some chains do not stock them at all. Look for the JAKIM halal logo on packed food if it matters to you.
Bags and payment
Bring your own bag, as many stores charge for plastic bags. Cards and DuitNow QR are widely accepted.
