Melaka Desserts: 5 Cendol, Nyonya Kuih and Cake Stops

Four Nyonya kuih on a yellow table: pandan kaya on glutinous rice, blue pulut tai tai, layered kuih lapis and onde-onde, typical Melaka desserts

Melaka desserts start with cendol, made here with the dark palm sugar called gula Melaka after the state (the city is also spelled Malacca). Shaved ice, green rice-flour jelly and coconut milk go under the syrup, and many stalls add red beans or durian. The other local sweet is Nyonya kuih, the colourful steamed cakes of the Peranakan kitchen.

This guide covers 5 Melaka dessert stops, each confirmed from its own website, Instagram or Facebook page, or the Tourism Melaka food listing, in October 2026. Prices are in Malaysian Ringgit (RM); none of them publishes a price list online. Coffee-led cafes are in our Melaka cafes guide and coconut shakes in the Melaka drinks guide.

Our list is short because we only include places we could confirm are open now. Many smaller cendol and kuih stalls on Jonker Street are worth trying as you walk, but their hours change often.

Cendol Kampung Hulu is one of the best-known cendol names in the old town: shaved ice, green rice-flour jelly, coconut milk and gula Melaka (palm sugar) syrup. It has grown into a small chain, with the original shop on Jalan Kampung Hulu, a drive-through and a Makan Avenue branch in Melaka, plus branches in Muar and Johor Bahru. Its Instagram account posts daily and showed gelato and mango desserts in late October 2026.

It says it is open daily, but times are not published. The shop is near the Kampung Hulu Mosque, a short walk from the end of Jonker Street. Phone (Makan Avenue) 012-673 2028.

Jonker 88

88 Jalan Hang Jebat (Jonker Street), 75200 Melaka ยท Check hours before visiting ยท Check prices at the counterHalal status not confirmed ยท Google Maps ยท Verified Oct 2026

Jonker 88 is a shophouse eatery in the middle of Jonker Street that map listings and guides know for its cendol and laksa. Its GrabFood listing, with a menu updated in January 2026, shows it is still trading, but the delivery menu covers laksa and coffee only, so cendol is a dine-in order; ask at the counter. This is the least well documented entry on this page.

Its own pages publish no hours or prices, so treat the times on map listings as a guide only. Come before the evening crowds if you want a seat.

Mango Float Royale is a dessert shop in Sungai Putat, Batu Berendam, that Tourism Melaka lists among the state's popular foods. It makes mango float and a mango cheesecake.

It is open every day from 11 am to 6 pm and also delivers through GrabFood. Batu Berendam is about 15 minutes by car north of the old town, so pair it with the coconut shake stall there (see our Melaka drinks guide).

Baba Charlie makes a wide range of Melaka Nyonya kuih, the small steamed and layered cakes of the Peranakan kitchen, and also serves Nyonya dishes. Its Facebook page, with more than 16.000 followers, was active in October 2026.

It is in the Tengkera area west of the old town. An older map pin sits nearby on Jalan Tengkera Pantai 2C, so check the location and hours on Google Maps before you go. Kuih sells out through the day, so mornings are best.

Nadeje

The Plaza Mahkota cafe in Bandar Hilir is open daily from 9:30 am to 7:30 pm (phone 016-772 6697). A second Melaka outlet at Bangunan Jaya 99, Jalan Tun Sri Lanang, opens from 11 am to 10 pm daily (phone 016-716 6697).

Nadeje is not halal-certified because some flavours contain alcohol, though it says nine flavours have no alcoholic extracts. The cakes are made without preservatives and should be eaten within about 20 minutes out of the fridge, so ask for a cooler bag if you are taking one away. Whole cakes need ordering three days ahead.

Tips for desserts in Melaka

Ask about durian

Durian cendol costs more than the plain bowl and depends on the season and the stall. Ask the price before you order.

Gula Melaka to take home

Gula Melaka palm sugar is sold in blocks and bottles around Jonker Street. Our Melaka attractions guide covers the old-town streets where the shops are.

Halal and ingredients

Cendol and kuih use coconut milk and palm sugar, with no pork, but only a shop with a halal certificate is certified. Nadeje is not halal-certified because some flavours contain alcohol. Ask at the counter for the rest.
