Melaka Drinks: Coconut Shake, Kopi and 5 Places to Try

A cup of kopi O, sweet black coffee, in a flower-patterned kopitiam cup and saucer of the kind used for Melaka drinks such as Hainanese kopi

Melaka drinks are about two things: the coconut shake, blended from young coconut and ice cream, which the stalls at Klebang made famous, and the strong local kopi of the Hainanese coffee shops in the old town of the city also spelled Malacca.

This guide covers 5 Melaka drink stops, each confirmed from its own Instagram or Facebook page or the Tourism Melaka food listing in October 2026. Prices are in Malaysian Ringgit (RM); none of them publishes a price list online. This page does not cover alcohol: beer and cocktails are in our Melaka bars guide.

Espresso-led cafes are in the Melaka cafes guide, and cendol and other desserts in the Melaka desserts guide.

Tips for Melaka drinks

Ordering kopi

Kopi comes with sweetened condensed milk unless you ask otherwise. Kopi O is black with sugar, kopi C has evaporated milk and sugar, and adding "kosong" means no sugar.

Coconut shake timing

The Klebang stall posts a later Friday opening, at 2:30 pm, and both coconut shake stalls may close early on some days. Go in the afternoon from Saturday to Thursday.

Halal

Klebang Original Coconut Shake is Muslim-run. We found no halal certificate for the other places on this page, so ask at the counter.
