Melaka Souvenirs: 4 Places to Buy Gifts, Crafts and Food

Crowds on Jonker Street at the night market, with stalls of snacks, toys and bottled palm sugar, a busy place to buy Melaka souvenirs

Melaka souvenirs (Malacca souvenirs in older English guides) are mostly found in a few streets of the old town around Jonker Street, where shophouses sell packed local food, Peranakan-style crafts, antiques and small gifts. The most popular things to take home are food: gula Melaka (palm sugar), dodol, pineapple tarts and biscuits. Melaka is also known for Nyonya beaded slippers and kebaya, which are sold by a handful of specialist shops.

This guide covers 4 places to buy Melaka souvenirs, checked in October 2026 against the shops' own websites and social media pages and the Tourism Melaka shopping list. We only list shops we could confirm, so the list is short; for the food products themselves, see the Melaka local products guide linked at the end of this page.

Tips for Buying Melaka Souvenirs

Nyonya beaded slippers and kebaya

Hand-beaded Nyonya slippers (kasut manek) and kebaya blouses are the classic Peranakan crafts of Melaka. Tourism Melaka's shopping list includes TS Lim Beaded Shoes on Jalan Tokong, a bound-feet shoe shop near Jonker Street and Toko Cik Ros Kebaya Nyonya on Jalan Laksamana, but we could not confirm their current hours. Real hand-beaded slippers take weeks to make and cost far more than machine-made copies, so ask how a pair was made before you pay.

Prices and bargaining

Food gifts have fixed prices. At night-market stalls and small souvenir shops, polite bargaining on several items is normal. Compare two or three shops before buying anything expensive.

When to shop

Weekday mornings are the quietest time on Jonker Street. Many shops open by about 9 or 10 am and some stay open late on Friday to Sunday for the night market.
