Johor Bahru Hotels: 17 Places to Stay, CIQ to LEGOLAND

This guide to Johor Bahru hotels covers 17 places to stay in Johor Bahru (JB), from the towers next to JB Sentral and the CIQ checkpoint to LEGOLAND Malaysia Hotel and the serviced apartments of Iskandar Puteri, with a budget Tune Hotel at Danga Bay and one beach resort at Desaru for a night away. Prices are a nightly rate for a room for two.
Each price is the lowest rate Booking.com showed us for a mid-week night (11 to 12 November 2026) in US dollars, converted at about RM4.06 to the dollar and rounded; it excludes the 8% SST that most hotels add, so treat it as a guide and check the live rate. Weekend and school-holiday rates are often much higher, because JB fills with visitors from Singapore. Foreign guests also pay a Tourism Tax of RM10 per room per night at check-in. We left out hotels whose current status we could not confirm: the former Thistle Johor Bahru now appears on Booking.com as JW Marriott Hotel Johor Bahru without a published address or rates, and we could not load a current page for Hotel Jen Puteri Harbour or Puteri Pacific. Mount Austin has many small budget hotels, but none we could verify, so St Giles Southkey and Renaissance in Permas Jaya are the nearest picks.

Tips for booking hotels in Johor Bahru
- Book weekdays if you can. Friday and Saturday nights, Singapore school holidays and public holidays push rates up sharply across JB, especially near LEGOLAND.
- If you are crossing the Causeway, stay within walking distance of JB Sentral (Holiday Inn, Amari) so you can avoid queues for taxis after immigration.
- Rates on Booking.com usually exclude 8% SST and the RM10 Tourism Tax for foreign guests; check the final total before paying.
- Serviced apartments (Capri by Fraser, Fraser Place, Somerset Medini) have kitchens or kitchenettes and suit families or longer stays; several take a RM200 to RM300 deposit at check-in.
- Check-in and check-out times vary by hotel; most check in from 3 pm, but confirm the time when you book.
