Shopping Malls in Johor Bahru: 10 Malls and What Each Is Best For
Shopping malls in Johor Bahru (JB) are a big reason many Singaporeans cross the Causeway, and they are spread out: two sit next to JB Sentral and the checkpoint, a cluster lies a few kilometres north in Taman Abad and Southkey, more are in Tebrau to the north-east, and others are in Skudai and Bukit Indah on the way to Iskandar Puteri. Only the two city-centre malls are easy on foot; for the rest, use Grab or a car.
This guide covers 10 shopping malls in Johor Bahru and the nearby outlet centre, checked in October 2026 against the malls' own websites, AEON's mall pages and Wikipedia. Where a mall's own page did not show opening hours, we say so. R&F Mall in Tanjung Puteri, Sutera Mall and several older city-centre plazas are left out because we could not confirm their current line-ups from a source we could read.

Johor Bahru City Square
Johor Bahru City Square opened in 1999 on Jalan Wong Ah Fook, a few minutes on foot from the Causeway. Since December 2008 a pedestrian bridge has linked it to JB Sentral station and the Sultan Iskandar CIQ building, so it is the first mall most visitors from Singapore reach. Its own site gives opening hours of 10 am to 10 pm daily.
A revamp announced in November 2025 is being carried out in phases, with completion targeted for the end of 2027, so expect some hoarding and closed sections. The mall was still adding shops in 2026, such as Guardian, Herbal Farmer and Ticco, and it has a cinema, fashion, phone and food outlets.
Komtar JBCC
Komtar JBCC is the redevelopment of the old KOMTAR building in the city centre. The mall had its soft opening on 2 August 2014, and it has about 623,000 sq ft of floor space, a souk-style bazaar, restaurants, an indoor children's playground and around 1,700 parking bays.
It is within walking distance of JB Sentral, so it pairs well with City Square on a half-day in the old town. The mall's own site was announcing new tenants through 2026, including Matsukiyo, Empire Sushi and Yumido. We could not confirm its opening hours on that site, so check before you go.
KSL City Mall
KSL City Mall opened on 12 December 2010 in Taman Abad, about 3 km north of the Causeway. It has around 500 shops, a Lotus's supermarket on the lower ground floor and two towers of the KSL Resort hotel above. The mall's site gives opening hours of 10 am to 10 pm, Monday to Sunday, and its customer service number is 07-288 2888.
It is a mid-priced mall with fashion, food and everyday shops, and it is easy to reach from the city centre by Grab or the J100 bus. The streets around it also hold a weekly Monday night market and several biscuit and snack shops; see our Johor Bahru night markets guide for the market.
The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey
The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey opened on 23 April 2019 and is the largest shopping mall in Johor, modelled on Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur. The development also has the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, two office towers and a St Giles hotel. The mall's site gives hours of 10 am to 10 pm daily.
Its store directory includes SOGO, UNIQLO, MUJI, Harvey Norman, DAISO, Popular bookshop, a Golden Screen Cinemas multiplex and a Village Grocer supermarket. It is about 5 km north of the Causeway, roughly 15 minutes by Grab outside rush hour.
AEON Mall Permas Jaya
AEON Mall Permas Jaya is a neighbourhood mall on the east side of the city, built around an AEON department store and supermarket. AEON's mall page gives hours of 10 am to 10 pm from Sunday to Thursday and 10 am to 10:30 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays.
It is about 7 km east of the city centre, so it is most useful if you are staying in Permas Jaya, Bandar Baru Permas or near the Pasir Gudang Highway.
Toppen Shopping Centre
Toppen Shopping Centre is a large mall in Tebrau, in the north-east of the city, built alongside an IKEA store. Its own site promotes IKEA Family offers, events and a rooftop area called The Topp, and its store guide lists food, fashion, cinemas and a Jaya Grocer supermarket.
It is about 11 km north of the Causeway and is easiest by car or Grab. AEON Mall Tebrau City is a short drive away, so the two are often combined. We could not confirm Toppen's opening hours on its site, so check before you go.
AEON Mall Tebrau City
AEON Mall Tebrau City is a large AEON mall in the Tebrau area, close to Toppen and IKEA. AEON's mall page lists a shop directory with fashion, food, entertainment and health and beauty outlets, plus services such as a prayer room, baby room and wheelchair loan.
Its opening hours were not shown on AEON's page when we checked; other AEON malls in Johor Bahru open from 10 am, so check before a late visit.
Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru
Paradigm Mall Johor Bahru opened on 28 November 2017 on the Skudai side of the city. The mall describes seven storeys with more than 500 shops over 1.3 million sq ft, a 20,000 sq ft ice-skating rink and a 16-screen cinema, with a Hyatt Place hotel in the same development.
Its contact page gives mall hours of 10 am to 10 pm daily and a concierge number of 07-231 3800. The mall says it is about a 10-minute drive from the city centre; in practice allow 20 minutes or more at peak times.
AEON Mall Bukit Indah
AEON Mall Bukit Indah is the main mall for the western suburbs, in Bukit Indah on the way to Iskandar Puteri, Puteri Harbour and Legoland Malaysia. AEON's page gives hours of 10 am to 10 pm from Sunday to Thursday and 10 am to 10:30 pm on Fridays, Saturdays and the eve of public holidays.
It has an AEON store and supermarket with a range of fashion, food and services, and a Lotus's hypermarket is a short walk away on Jalan Indah 15. It is about 12 km west of the city centre.
Johor Premium Outlets
Johor Premium Outlets is an open-air outlet centre in Indahpura, Kulai, run by Genting Simon. It opened in December 2011 and grew to about 150 stores after expansions in 2013 and 2018. Its site gives hours of 10 am to 10 pm, Monday to Sunday.
The store directory includes Coach, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Burberry, Nike, adidas, Levi's and Samsonite, along with FIDANI Chocolatier and cafes. It is outside Johor Bahru, about 30 minutes by car from the city centre, so treat it as a half-day trip and check the directory for the brands you want.
Tips for Shopping Malls in Johor Bahru
Cara ke sana
City Square is linked by a covered bridge to JB Sentral and the CIQ checkpoint, and Komtar JBCC is a short walk away. For the other malls, Grab is cheap and quick outside rush hour, but traffic around the Causeway, Jalan Tebrau and the Skudai Highway is heavy on Friday evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Bila hendak pergi
Weekday mornings and early afternoons are quietest. Singapore school holidays and long weekends bring big crowds and long queues at the checkpoint, so plan your return crossing as carefully as the shopping.
Apa yang boleh dibeli
Malls are best for clothes, shoes, electronics and everyday goods, often cheaper than in Singapore. For edible gifts and crafts, see our Johor Bahru souvenirs guide linked below.
