Supermarkets in Selangor: 8 Places for Groceries and Food Gifts
Supermarkets in Selangor are everywhere: almost every mall has one, and the large hypermarkets in the suburbs open earlier and close later than most shops. For visitors, they are the cheapest place for bottled water, snacks, toiletries and packaged Malaysian food gifts such as bak kut teh herbs, instant coffee and biscuits.
This guide covers 8 supermarkets in Selangor, checked in October 2026 against the chains' own store locators and mall directories, with the town for each. We picked stores that are close to where visitors stay or travel: Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, Klang, the airport side and Kuala Selangor. Supermarkets inside Kuala Lumpur city are on our Kuala Lumpur supermarkets guide.

Jaya Grocer 1 Utama
Jaya Grocer is a Malaysian premium supermarket chain headquartered in Petaling Jaya. Its 1 Utama branch is on the lower ground floor, unit LG309, according to the mall directory, and is one of the mall's anchor tenants. Phone: +60 3-7611 9192.
It is a good place for imported cheese, bakery items, fresh produce and Malaysian packaged food gifts, and it is easy to reach on the MRT via Bandar Utama station. Prices are higher than at the hypermarkets.
Lotus's Mutiara Damansara
Lotus's (formerly Tesco) Mutiara Damansara is a hypermarket a short walk from The Curve, linked to it by a covered bridge. Lotus's lists the store as open daily from 8 am to 10 pm, including public holidays, with the attached mall open from 10 am.
It sells groceries, fresh food, household goods and electronics at hypermarket prices, and is the easiest big, cheap supermarket for visitors at The Curve, IPC or the Mutiara Damansara MRT station.
AEON BiG Subang Jaya
AEON BiG Subang Jaya is AEON's hypermarket format, on Jalan Kemajuan Subang in SS16, next to Subang Parade. AEON BiG lists it as open from 9 am on weekdays and 8 am at weekends and on public holidays, closing at 10 pm. Careline: 1-300-80-2366.
It is a convenient bulk stop for visitors staying in Subang Jaya or around Sunway, with groceries, fresh food and household goods.
Mydin USJ Subang Jaya
Mydin is a Malaysian hypermarket chain known for low prices, with its head office in Subang Jaya and 71 outlets nationwide as of 2025. Wikipedia lists its Subang Jaya hypermarket in USJ among the chain's outlets; it is on Persiaran Subang Permai, a short walk from The Summit USJ.
It is the place for cheap bulk groceries, snacks, toiletries and household goods. We could not load Mydin's own store locator when checking, so confirm opening hours before a late-night trip.
AEON Setia City Mall
The AEON store in Setia City Mall spans three floors (lower ground, upper ground and level 1) and includes a full supermarket with fresh produce, plus AEON's department store. AEON lists it as open from 10 am to 10 pm.
It is the main big supermarket for visitors staying in Setia Alam or the western side of Shah Alam, and the mall has a cinema and a park next door if you are travelling with children.
Lotus's Klang
Lotus's Klang is a hypermarket in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, about 1,5 km from AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi. Lotus's lists it as open daily from 8 am to 10 pm, including public holidays, which makes it handy after an early bak kut teh breakfast in Klang.
Look in the dry goods aisles for packaged bak kut teh herb mixes and Malaysian coffee to take home, alongside the usual groceries and household goods.
Lotus's IOI City Mall
This Lotus's is on the lower ground floor of IOI City Mall, the largest mall in Malaysia. Unlike the stand-alone Lotus's stores, it follows mall hours: daily 10 am to 10 pm, according to Lotus's.
It is on the southern side of the Klang Valley, on the way to KLIA, so it suits a last grocery run before a flight or a stay near Putrajaya and Cyberjaya.
Lotus's Kuala Selangor
Lotus's Kuala Selangor is the main hypermarket in the Kuala Selangor area, open daily from 8 am to 10 pm according to Lotus's. It is useful on a day trip to the fireflies, Bukit Melawati or Sekinchan for water, snacks, insect repellent and sun cream.
Most of the coast beyond Kuala Selangor has only small shops and minimarts, so stock up here before heading north.
Tips for Shopping at Supermarkets in Selangor
Jam buka
Stand-alone hypermarkets such as Lotus's and AEON BiG open at 8 or 9 am and close at 10 pm. Supermarkets inside malls usually follow mall hours, from 10 am. Smaller chains such as 99 Speedmart, NSK and HeroMarket are common in Selangor neighbourhoods, but their hours vary by branch.
Yang bisa dibeli
Packaged bak kut teh herbs, instant white coffee, teh tarik sachets, kaya and biscuits are cheaper in supermarkets than in airport shops. Bottled water, sunscreen and toiletries are cheapest at the hypermarkets.
Halal and non-halal
Stores that sell pork and alcohol keep them in a separate section with its own payment counter, and some chains do not stock them at all. Look for the JAKIM halal logo on packaged food if it matters to you.
Bags and payment
Bring your own shopping bag: many stores charge for plastic bags or do not provide them. Cards, Touch 'n Go eWallet and DuitNow QR are widely accepted.
