Johor Bahru Desserts: 12 Places for Cake, Bingsu, Gelato and Kuih

Mount Austin at night with lit shop signs and a row of shophouses, the Johor Bahru suburb with the most dessert cafes in this guide

Johor Bahru desserts range from Malay kuih and Taiwanese soy beancurd to Thai bingsu, matcha cakes and plated waffles. Johor Bahru (JB) has its densest cluster of dessert cafes in Mount Austin, about 25 minutes north of the Causeway, with more in Taman Melodies, Mid Valley Southkey and the Eco townships.

This guide covers 12 dessert spots, checked in October 2026 against food guides published in 2025 and 2026, Grab merchant listings and OpenStreetMap. Prices are in Malaysian Ringgit (RM); "++" means service charge and tax are added. Each entry carries a halal flag, and five of the twelve are halal-certified.

For the city's best-known old bakery, Hiap Joo and its banana cake, see our Johor Bahru hawker food guide. Brunch and coffee cafes are in the Johor Bahru cafes guide.
