Ipoh Drinks: 7 Places to Try White Coffee and Kopitiam Drinks
The best-known Ipoh drinks are white coffee and its iced version, made from beans roasted with palm-oil margarine and served with sweetened condensed milk. It is a kopitiam (coffee shop) drink, and the Old Town has several shops within a few minutes' walk of each other.
This guide covers 7 places for Ipoh drinks with addresses and halal status, checked in October 2026. Most are white coffee kopitiams. Where the only published hours came from guides written in 2024, we say "check before visiting" instead of repeating them. Prices are not published for most of them, so check the board at the counter.
Soya bean milk, herbal tea and sugarcane juice are sold by many Ipoh stalls, but we could not confirm the current addresses and hours of individual sellers, so they are not listed here. For soya pudding, see Woong Kee Beancurd. The two oldest white coffee shops, Sin Yoon Loong and Nam Heong, are in our hawker food guide.

Kong Fu Kopitiam
Kong Fu Kopitiam opened on 8 January 2025 inside the Perak Ku Kong Chow Association building on Jalan Panglima. The ground floor serves Ipoh white coffee, kaya toast and dim sum, and a small museum upstairs covers the history of Chinese secret societies in Perak.

Kedai Kopi Nam Chau
Nam Chau is an old Jalan Bandar Timah kopitiam serving white coffee made from an Arabica and Robusta blend roasted with palm-oil margarine and sugar. Guides describe the result as creamy, neither too bitter nor too sweet.
Its Grab Food listing, which labels it non-halal, was live in October 2026. The only opening hours we found are from a May 2024 guide, so check before visiting.
Kedai Kopi Ah Chow
Ah Chow is known for a white coffee served with alcohol, so it is not suitable for Muslim visitors or anyone avoiding alcohol; the plain white coffee is on the sweet side.
It is on the same road as Nam Chau, so the two can be compared in one morning. Its Grab Food listing was live in October 2026, but 2024 guides give different street numbers and hours, so check before visiting.
Yinzo Kopi
Yinzo Kopi is a contemporary, air-conditioned white coffee shop, a contrast to the fan-cooled kopitiams around it, and a good choice if you want to sit in comfort at midday.
Its Grab Food listing was live in October 2026. The only published hours we found date from May 2024, so check before visiting.

The white coffee carries a layer of foam, and the usual order is a cup with kaya toast. The shop also has a Chinese restaurant menu. Phone 05-253 8896.
That guide is from December 2024 and we could not confirm current opening hours, so check before visiting.
OldTown White Coffee Greentown
OldTown White Coffee is a Malaysian chain that began in Ipoh, and this Greentown outlet is in a renovated pre-war shophouse. The menu is white coffee with curry mee, hor fun and other kopitiam dishes. The chain shows a halal logo on its website, so this is the easiest white coffee stop for Muslim visitors.
The chain's store locator and its Grab Food listing both showed this outlet in October 2026. We could not confirm its current hours, so call 05-246 0129 before going.
A Jie Cafe
A Jie Cafe serves its white coffee using a method called bing zhen, which guides single out as unusual, and the coffee is described as smooth.
It is in Taman Hoover, south of the centre, near the Pasir Pinji area. Its Grab Food listing, which labels it non-halal, was live in October 2026, but the only hours we found are from May 2024, so check before visiting.
Tips for drinks in Ipoh
How white coffee is made
Ipoh white coffee uses beans roasted with palm-oil margarine, which gives a lighter colour and a smoother, less bitter cup than dark-roasted coffee. It is served with condensed milk and can be ordered iced.
Order words
Ask for "white coffee" hot or iced. Kopi O is black with sugar, kopi C is with evaporated milk, and "kosong" means no sugar. Cash is the safest way to pay at older kopitiams.
Timing and closing days
Most Old Town kopitiams open early in the morning and close by mid-afternoon, and many close one day a week. We could not confirm current hours for most shops here, so check the day before. Sin Yoon Loong and Nam Heong, in our hawker food guide, have 2025 hours.
