Supermarkets in Melaka: 7 Places for Groceries and Food Gifts
Supermarkets in Melaka (Malacca in older English spelling) are mostly outside the old town, in Peringgit, Malim, Batu Berendam and Ayer Keroh. There is no full supermarket inside the UNESCO heritage zone, so visitors staying on Jonker Street or in Bandar Hilir usually shop at the Peringgit stores, a short Grab ride away, or use the small convenience shops for water and snacks.
This guide covers 7 supermarkets in Melaka, checked in October 2026 against each chain's own store list, with addresses, hours where the chain publishes them and what each is best for. They are useful for bottled water, toiletries, snacks, packed local foods such as gula Melaka and dodol, and for stocking an apartment kitchen.

Lotus's Melaka
Lotus's (formerly Tesco) runs a hypermarket with a small mall attached on Jalan Tun Razak in Peringgit, about 3 km north of the old town. The chain's store page gives store hours of 8 am to 10 pm every day, including public holidays, and mall hours of 10 am to 10 pm. Phone: 012-230 8944.
It sells fresh food, groceries, household goods and electronics, and it is one of the closest large supermarkets to Jonker Street and Bandar Hilir.
AEON Bandaraya Melaka
The AEON store inside AEON Mall Bandaraya Melaka includes a supermarket, and AEON's location list also shows an AEON Wellness pharmacy and a Daiso in the same mall. It is a good choice for Japanese and imported snacks, bakery items and ready meals alongside local groceries.
It follows the mall's opening hours. We could not confirm them on AEON's own page, so check before you go.
Mydin Melaka Bazaar
Mydin Melaka Bazaar is on the first floor of Bazaar Melaka Sentral, next to the Melaka Sentral bus terminal. Mydin's store list gives hours of 8:30 am to 10 pm.
It is handy for buying water, snacks and toiletries before or after a long bus journey. Mydin also lists a separate Mydin Melaka Emporium store in Plaza Melaka Sentral nearby.
Mydin Melaka Hypermarket
The Mydin hypermarket at Mydin Mall MITC is the chain's largest store in Melaka, next to the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh. Mydin's store list gives hours of 8:30 am to 10 pm.
Mydin is known for low prices, so this is the place for a big, cheap shop of snacks, drinks and household goods. It is about 11 km from the old town, so most visitors drive or take a Grab.
Lotus's Melaka Cheng
Lotus's Melaka Cheng is the chain's second hypermarket in Melaka, in the north-west suburbs off the road to the highway at Cheng. The store page gives the same hours as the Peringgit store: 8 am to 10 pm daily, with the attached mall open 10 am to 10 pm. Phone: 012-611 6931.
It is about 11 km north of the old town, so it suits travellers driving in from the Alor Gajah side or staying in the northern suburbs.
Econsave Malim
Econsave is a Malaysian budget supermarket chain, and its Malim store is in the Plaza Pandan Malim business park, about 5 km north-west of the old town. Econsave's store list gives hours of 8 am to 10 pm and phone numbers 06-335 3833 and 06-336 5833.
It is a neighbourhood store for everyday groceries rather than a destination, and it is a useful stop if you are staying in an apartment in Malim or Bukit Baru.
Econsave Batu Berendam
Econsave Batu Berendam is on Jalan Angkasa Nuri, close to Melaka International Airport. Econsave's store list gives hours of 8 am to 10 pm and phone numbers 06-336 8709 and 06-336 8710, and also lists a smaller Econ2 store at the same address.
It is the nearest of these supermarkets to the airport, so it suits travellers picking up supplies on arrival by car.
Tips for Shopping at Supermarkets in Melaka
Waktu operasi
Lotus's and Econsave open at 8 am and Mydin at 8:30 am, earlier than most mall shops, and all the stores above close at about 10 pm. Small chain minimarts such as 99 Speedmart have branches across the city, including on Jalan Temenggong and in Taman Kota Laksamana near the old town, but hours vary by branch.
Apa yang boleh dibeli
Packed gula Melaka, dodol and local biscuits are usually cheaper in the hypermarkets than in the Jonker Street shops, though the specialist shops have a wider range and fresher stock. Bottled water, sunscreen and toiletries are best bought here.
Halal and non-halal
Stores that sell pork and alcohol keep them in a separate section, and the chains differ on whether they stock them at all. Look for the JAKIM halal logo on packed food if it matters to you, and ask staff if you cannot find a section.
Bags and payment
Bring your own shopping bag, as many stores charge for plastic bags. Cards and DuitNow QR are widely accepted; keep a little cash for small shops.
