About Portuguese Settlement
The Portuguese Settlement in Ujong Pasir is home to the Kristang, Melaka's Portuguese-Eurasian community, whose ancestry goes back to the Portuguese period of 1511 to 1641. About 1,000 people lived here in 2021.
The centre is Portuguese Square (Medan Portugis), with a food court and restaurants around it. It is a residential area rather than a sight, so come for a meal in the evening and a look at the houses and chapel.
