Supermarkets in Ipoh: 8 Places for Groceries and Food Gifts
Supermarkets in Ipoh range from premium grocers inside the main malls to large hypermarkets in the suburbs. The easiest for visitors staying near the Old Town and Greentown is the Jaya Grocer inside Ipoh Parade; the biggest and cheapest stores are further out and need a car or Grab.
This guide covers 8 supermarkets in Ipoh, checked in October 2026, with addresses, hours where we could confirm them and what each is best for. They are useful for bottled water, snacks, toiletries and packaged local food gifts such as white coffee, and for stocking an apartment kitchen. For fresh local food, the Old Town hawker stalls and wet markets are the better choice.

Jaya Grocer Ipoh Parade
Jaya Grocer opened on the basement level of Ipoh Parade on 30 January 2016 and is still listed as one of the mall's anchor tenants. It is the most central supermarket for visitors staying near the Old Town and Greentown, and it carries a wide range of imported goods, bakery items and Malaysian packaged food.
It has a Fresco Grocerant section where meat and seafood can be bought and cooked on site. Prices are higher than at the hypermarkets, so use it for specialty items rather than a big shop.
Cold Storage Sentra Mall
Cold Storage officially opened at Sentra Mall Ipoh on 11 December 2025, marking the chain's return to Perak. It sells fresh premium local and imported food in a modern, air-conditioned store.
The mall is on the northern side of the city, so go by Grab or car. It is the Ipoh store to try for imported cheese, meat, wine and gourmet snacks.
Giant Bandar Baru Tambun
Giant opened a new neighbourhood supermarket in Bandar Baru Tambun on 18 December 2025, its return to Ipoh. It sells fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, seafood, chilled food and household essentials, with parking and a fried-chicken stall next door.
It is a convenient stop if you are visiting the Tambun pomelo farms or the Lost World of Tambun, and it is open from 8 am, earlier than most of the mall-based stores.
Econsave Angsana Mall
Econsave is the anchor tenant of Angsana Mall, taking the ground and first floors. It is a budget supermarket for everyday groceries and household goods and is a few minutes from Ipoh Parade.
The mall is older and plainer than the AEON malls, but the supermarket is convenient if you are staying in Greentown. Mall phone: +60 5-242 2370.
AEON Ipoh Falim Store
The AEON Ipoh Falim Store, which used to trade as AEON BiG, is the hypermarket in the AEON Ipoh Falim mall. It sells groceries, fresh food and household goods at hypermarket prices, and the mall around it has a cinema and family attractions.
AEON's store list gives 10 am to 10 pm daily. Check the hours of other shops in the mall separately.
Mydin Meru Raya
Mydin is a Malaysian hypermarket chain known for low prices, and the Meru Raya store is the anchor of Mydin Mall Meru Raya. It is the place to stock up on bulk groceries, snacks, toiletries and household goods.
It is on the northern edge of Ipoh near the Amanjaya bus terminal, so it suits travellers arriving or leaving by bus or staying in a self-catering unit in the north.
Lotus's Station 18
Lotus's (formerly Tesco) is a large hypermarket chain with stores in the Station 18 area of south Ipoh, close to AEON Mall Ipoh Station 18. They sell groceries, fresh food, electronics and homeware.
Lotus's store page lists the hypermarket as open daily from 8 am to 10 pm; shops in the surrounding mall keep 10 am to 10 pm.
Econsave Botani Village
The Econsave in Botani Village opened in 2021 and was reported as the largest Econsave hypermarket in Malaysia, with a floor space of about 0.9 hectares. It is in Bandar Seri Botani, about 9 km south-east of the Old Town.
It is best for a big shop if you are staying in the south-east of the city. Econsave's store list gives daily hours of 8 am to 10 pm.
Tips for Shopping at Supermarkets in Ipoh
Waktu operasi
Mall-based supermarkets mostly follow mall hours, usually 10 am to 10 pm. Giant in Bandar Baru Tambun, Lotus's Station 18 and Econsave Botani open earlier, at 8 am, and Mydin at 8:30 am. Smaller chain minimarts such as 99 Speedmart (for example on Jalan Pegoh, Jalan Pasir Puteh and Jalan Pengkalan Barat) are handy for water and snacks, but their hours vary by branch.
Apa yang boleh dibeli
Packaged white coffee, biscuits and snacks are cheaper in supermarkets than in the Old Town souvenir lanes, though the range of fresh heong peah and kaya puffs is better at the bakeries. Bottled water, sunscreen and toiletries are best bought at the hypermarkets.
Halal and non-halal
Pork and alcohol are normally kept in a separate section in stores that sell them, and the chains differ on whether they stock them at all. Look for the JAKIM halal logo on packaged food if it matters to you, and ask staff if you cannot find a section.
Bags and payment
Bring your own shopping bag: many stores charge for plastic ones or do not provide them. Cards and DuitNow QR are widely accepted; keep a little cash for small stalls.
